Iowa at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — A surging Iowa team riding a five-game win streak will face a Minnesota squad looking to build on a strong conference road victory when the Big Ten rivals meet Tuesday night at Williams Arena.

The Hawkeyes (12-2, 1-0 Big Ten) have been dominant since a narrow road loss to Iowa State last month, winning their last four games by an average of 31.5 points. Their most recent test was a 74-61 victory over UCLA on Saturday, powered by a career-high 27 points from sophomore guard Bennett Stirtz.

Stirtz has been the engine for Iowa, averaging 16.0 points and 5.8 assists over his last five games. He is complemented by forwards Alvaro Folgueiras and Tavion Banks, who combined for 23 points and three blocks against the Bruins.

The Golden Gophers (9-5, 1-0) opened conference play with an impressive 84-78 win at Northwestern. Senior point guard Langston Reynolds orchestrated the victory with a triple-double of 13 points, six rebounds and 13 assists. His backcourt mate, Cade Tyson, added 24 points in the win.

Minnesota has shown a stark home-road split this season, going 7-1 at Williams Arena with the only loss to Santa Clara. Their home wins include a 73-64 victory over Indiana.

Iowa leads the all-time series 109-102, but Minnesota has won three of the last five meetings in Minneapolis. The Hawkeyes’ high-powered offense, averaging 84.6 points in their last five games, will challenge a Gophers defense that has held opponents to 60.3 points per game during their current three-game win streak.

The matchup features two of the conference’s top facilitators in Stirtz and Reynolds, setting the stage for a pivotal early-season conference clash. Following this game, Iowa hosts Illinois on Sunday, while Minnesota welcomes Southern California on Friday.
