South Dakota State at North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Interstat) — A pair of teams looking to build momentum in the Summit League will meet Saturday when the South Dakota State Jackrabbits visit the North Dakota Fighting Hawks at Engelstad Arena.

South Dakota State (8-8, 1-0 Summit) enters on a high note after an 84-69 home win over Omaha on Thursday. North Dakota (7-10, 1-0) also opened conference play with a victory, defeating Oral Roberts 72-61.

The Jackrabbits will rely heavily on forward Damon Wilkinson, who is coming off a dominant performance. In the win over Omaha, Wilkinson recorded 24 points and 19 rebounds in 29 minutes. Over his last five games, he is averaging 16.2 points and 8.2 rebounds.

North Dakota counters with guard Eli King, who posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win against Oral Roberts. King has been a consistent scorer, reaching double figures in five of his last seven contests, including a 25-point outing in a win over Winthrop.

Both teams have faced struggles in nonconference play. The Jackrabbits have alternated wins and losses over their last seven games, including a 99-71 defeat at Arizona. The Fighting Hawks have lost four of their last six, with setbacks against Nebraska, Montana and Western Illinois in overtime.

Historically, South Dakota State has controlled the series, winning the last six meetings. Their most recent matchup was a 78-68 Jackrabbits victory in Fargo last February.

The game will be a test of South Dakota State’s interior strength, led by Wilkinson and Kalen Garry (13 points, nine rebounds, six assists vs. Omaha), against a North Dakota team that saw strong contributions from George Natsvishvili (19 points) and Garrett Anderson (11 points) in its league opener.

Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon in Grand Forks.
