Sacramento State at Weber State

OGDEN, Utah (Interstat) — Two Big Sky Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Weber State Wildcats host the Sacramento State Hornets at the Dee Events Center.

Weber State (6-8) is coming off a 95-90 overtime loss to Portland State on Thursday, a game in which the Wildcats squandered a late lead. Sacramento State (4-8) last played on Dec. 22, falling 100-88 at Cal State Northridge.

The matchup features two of the league’s top guards. Weber State will rely on Tijan Saine, who nearly posted a triple-double against Portland State with 23 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in 39 minutes. Over his last five games, Saine is averaging 16.4 points and 5.4 assists.

He will be matched by Sacramento State’s Prophet Johnson, who scored 26 points in the loss to Cal State Northridge. Johnson’s scoring punch, alongside backcourt mate Mikey Williams (19 points, nine assists in that game), will be crucial for the Hornets, who have lost four straight.

Both teams have struggled defensively. Weber State allows 78.1 points per game, while Sacramento State surrenders 82.8. The Wildcats have shown a higher offensive ceiling, scoring 103 and 92 points in two of their last three home wins.

The game opens the conference slate for both squads. Weber State holds a slight historical edge at home in the series, but the extended break for Sacramento State could provide fresh legs for a road upset bid.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. MST Saturday. Weber State travels to Northern Arizona next Thursday, while Sacramento State continues its road trip at Portland State on Jan. 10.
