North Florida at Lipscomb
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — A struggling North Florida team seeking its first win over a Division I opponent this season faces a Lipscomb squad looking to build early ASUN Conference momentum when the two meet Saturday at Allen Arena.
The Ospreys (2-11) enter on a six-game losing skid, all against D-I competition, with their last victory coming against non-DI Trinity Baptist on Nov. 29. Their most recent result was a 90-82 home loss to Columbia on Dec. 28. The Bisons (8-6), meanwhile, opened their conference schedule with a decisive 76-57 win over Jacksonville on Thursday.
North Florida will lean heavily on guard Kamrin Oriol, who has been a bright spot during the difficult stretch. He is averaging 21 points over his last five games, including a 29-point performance at Miami (Fla.) and a 24-point, 5-assist effort against Columbia. His scoring will be crucial for an Ospreys offense that has faced several high-powered opponents.
Lipscomb counters with forward Grant Asman, a versatile contributor who posted 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the win over Jacksonville. Asman has been efficient, scoring 18 points at Duke and 21 in a blowout of Blue Mountain during December. The Bisons have shown offensive firepower, scoring 92 or more points in three of their eight wins.
The matchup pits one of the conference’s most challenged defenses against a balanced Lipscomb attack. North Florida has allowed 90 or more points in four of its last five games. Lipscomb, which averages 82.1 points per game, will look to exploit that trend on its home floor.
This game begins a key home stretch for the Bisons, who will play four of their next five conference games in Nashville. For the Ospreys, it marks the start of a tough opening to ASUN play, facing a team projected to finish near the top of the league standings.
Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon. The teams will meet again in Jacksonville on Jan. 31.
