Purdue Visits Wisconsin in Key Big Ten Clash

MADISON, Wis. (Interstat) — The surging Purdue Boilermakers, riding an eight-game winning streak, face a road test against the Wisconsin Badgers in a Big Ten Conference men’s basketball matchup Saturday at Kohl Center.

Fifth-ranked Purdue (12-1, 1-0 Big Ten) has been dominant since its lone loss to Iowa State on Dec. 6, winning those eight games by an average margin of 28.5 points. Their most recent outing was a 101-60 rout of Kent State on Monday. The Boilermakers’ balanced attack features guard Braden Smith, who had 12 points and eight assists against Kent State, and Fletcher Loyer, who added 19 points.

Freshman guard Jack Benter has provided explosive scoring off the bench for Purdue. He dropped 20 points in just 15 minutes against Kent State and is averaging 11.8 points over his last four games, making him a key player to watch.

Wisconsin (9-4, 1-0) looks to build momentum after an 80-60 victory over Milwaukee on Tuesday. The Badgers have shown a high ceiling, notably in a 96-76 win over then-Marquette, but have struggled with consistency, including a 30-point road loss at Nebraska.

Guard Nick Boyd is Wisconsin’s primary offensive catalyst, averaging 16.4 points over his last five games. He scored 16 against Milwaukee and poured in 20 in the loss at Nebraska. His backcourt play will be critical against Purdue’s stout defense.

The game marks the conference home opener for Wisconsin. Purdue leads the all-time series 113-75, but the Badgers have historically been tough at home, winning six of the last ten meetings in Madison.

Following this game, Purdue hosts Washington on Jan. 7. Wisconsin continues a challenging stretch, hosting UCLA on Jan. 6.

Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
