Duke at Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Duke team riding a six-game win streak will face a Florida State squad seeking consistency in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball matchup Saturday at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

The Blue Devils (12-1, 1-0 ACC) have emerged as a national contender, their only loss a one-point defeat to Texas Tech on Dec. 20. They are coming off an 85-79 home win over Georgia Tech on Wednesday, powered by star forward Cameron Boozer’s 26 points and 12 rebounds.

Boozer, a leading candidate for national player of the year, has been dominant, averaging 23.3 points over his last four games. His supporting cast includes Isaiah Evans, who scored 17 against Georgia Tech, and center Patrick Ngongba, who nearly posted a double-double.

The Seminoles (7-7, 0-1) have struggled against high-major competition, going 0-6 in such games, including a 79-66 loss at North Carolina on Tuesday. Their defense has been a concern, allowing an average of 88 points in those six losses.

Florida State will rely on forward Chauncey Wiggins, who scored 16 points against the Tar Heels and has averaged 16 points over his last three games. Guard Robert McCray, who had 11 points and eight assists against UNC, will be key in handling Duke’s pressure.

The venue offers little historical comfort for the Seminoles; Duke has won 12 of the last 14 meetings overall. For Florida State to spring the upset, it must control the tempo and find scoring beyond Wiggins against one of the nation’s most efficient defenses.

This game opens a critical January stretch for both teams. Duke visits Louisville next Tuesday, while Florida State hosts NC State on Jan. 10.
