DAVIS, Calif. (Interstat) — UC Davis opened Big West Conference play with an 89-80 victory over Cal State Northridge on Thursday at The Pavilion.

The Aggies improved to 8-5 overall by pulling away in the second half after leading 38-33 at halftime. The Matadors fell to 8-7. Connor Sevilla led all scorers with 23 points for UC Davis, while teammate Marcus Wilson added 19 points and five assists. Josiah Davis paced Cal State Northridge with 21 points.

UC Davis shot efficiently from the floor to secure the win in front of 923 fans. The Aggies were installed as 4.5-point favorites pregame. The teams will meet again in Northridge on Jan. 29.
