Vermont at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. (Interstat) — The Vermont Catamounts look to complete a season sweep and continue their momentum when they visit the struggling Princeton Tigers in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup Tuesday afternoon at Jadwin Gymnasium.

Vermont (8-6) enters having won three of its last four, including an 83-69 victory over Siena on Dec. 17. The Catamounts are coming off a narrow 83-78 home loss to Iona on Dec. 20, a game in which Gus Yalden scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The sophomore forward has been on a scoring tear, averaging 19.2 points over his last five games, highlighted by a 29-point performance against Siena.

Princeton (3-11) seeks to halt a five-game skid. The Tigers’ most recent outing was a 65-61 loss at Temple on Dec. 22, where Malik Abdullahi led the way with 21 points. The junior guard has been a bright spot, averaging 14.5 points over his last two contests.

The Tigers’ defense will be tested by a Vermont offense that has scored at least 78 points in three of its last four games. Conversely, Princeton has failed to reach 70 points in eight consecutive games.

This is a rematch of a Nov. 26 thriller in which Vermont edged Princeton 79-74 on the same floor. Yalden scored 16 points in that contest, while Abdullahi was held to eight points for the Tigers.

Vermont will aim to use its superior record and recent offensive efficiency to its advantage before opening America East play at New Hampshire on Jan. 3. Princeton hopes to find a winning formula before its Ivy League schedule begins against Penn on Jan. 5.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
