Liberty Looks to Extend Win Streak Against Florida International in Conference USA Opener
WESTCHESTER, Fla. (Interstat) — The Liberty Flames and Florida International Golden Panthers, two of the early surprises in Conference USA, will open their league schedules Sunday when they meet at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
Liberty (8-3) enters on a two-game winning streak, most recently edging Dayton 64-61 on the road last Saturday. The Flames have been led by the versatile play of forward Zach Cleveland, who posted 12 points, seven assists and three blocks in that victory. Cleveland is coming off a triple-double performance (8 points, 7 rebounds, 13 assists, 4 blocks) in a blowout of Coppin State on Dec. 6.
Florida International (7-4) has won four of its last five, including a 121-70 rout of Trinity last Monday. The Golden Panthers are powered by forward Eric Dibami, who recorded a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds) in just 19 minutes in that contest. Dibami has scored in double figures in four of his last five games.
The Flames’ strength has been a balanced attack, with guards Colin Porter and Kaden Metheny combining for 29 points in the win at Dayton. Liberty’s three losses have come against high-major opponents or in close neutral-site games.
Florida International has shown offensive firepower, averaging 88.5 points in its seven wins, but has struggled against power-conference competition, falling to Miami (Fla.), LSU and Nebraska.
Liberty has been installed as a 4.5-point favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The over/under is 151.5 points.
This matchup begins a critical stretch for both teams as they dive into conference play. Liberty will host Kennesaw State next Friday, while Florida International will welcome New Mexico State on the same day.
Tip-off is set for Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025, at 4 p.m. EST.
