Green Bay Looks to Build Momentum Against Campbell in Nonconference Finale
LILLINGTON, N.C. (Interstat) — The Green Bay Phoenix and Campbell Fightin’ Camels will each look to enter their conference schedules on a positive note when they meet in a nonconference men’s basketball game Tuesday at the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.
Both teams carry identical .500 records over their last four games into the matchup. Green Bay (6-6) has split its last four, while Campbell (5-7) is 2-2 in that span, with both losses coming on the road against power conference opponents.
The Phoenix are coming off a 67-64 home win over UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 17, a victory fueled by a career-high 25 points from guard Marcus Hall. The junior is averaging 12.8 points per game and has been a consistent scorer, reaching double figures in seven games this season. His backcourt mate, Preston Ruedinger, dished out 13 assists in the win over the Gauchos.
Campbell returns home after a challenging two-game road trip that resulted in losses at then-Gonzaga and Minnesota. In the 78-50 defeat to the Golden Gophers on Sunday, guard Jeremiah Johnson led the Fightin’ Camels with 17 points. The senior is Campbell’s leading scorer this season at 14.2 points per game.
The Fightin’ Camels have found success at home this season, boasting a 4-1 record in Buies Creek, including a decisive 149-62 victory over Virginia-Lynchburg on Dec. 7. Their lone home loss was an 87-76 defeat to Penn State.
Green Bay has shown resilience on the road, securing wins at Iona and Massachusetts last month. However, they have struggled recently away from home, falling at Wright State by 28 points on Dec. 7.
This game marks the final nonconference tune-up for both programs before league play begins in January. Green Bay will open Horizon League action at Purdue Fort Wayne on Jan. 1. Campbell will jump into Coastal Athletic Association play with a road game at Hofstra on Dec. 29.
Tuesday’s contest will be just the second meeting between the two schools. Campbell won the only previous matchup, 75-70, on Nov. 25, 2017.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
