Temple at Davidson

Preview: Temple Owls at Davidson Wildcats

DAVIDSON, N.C. (Interstat) — The Davidson Wildcats, riding a strong start to the season, will host the Temple Owls in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup on Thursday night at Belk Arena.

Davidson (8-2) has won six of its last seven games, most recently an 80-47 rout of Mercyhurst on Saturday. The Wildcats have been efficient at home, boasting a 6-1 record in Davidson. Guard Parker Friedrichsen is a key facilitator, coming off a 13-point, 7-assist performance against Mercyhurst. He averages 5.8 points and 2.7 assists per game.

Temple (6-5) arrives after a dominant 95-67 victory over Saint Francis (PA) on Sunday, snapping a two-game skid. The Owls’ offense has shown high-scoring potential, exceeding 90 points in three wins this season. However, consistency has been an issue, with losses in four of their last seven contests.

The game features a compelling backcourt matchup. Temple is led by dynamic guard Derrian Ford, who is averaging 18.1 points per game. Ford is coming off a 24-point, 6-rebound effort and has scored 20 or more points in four of his last seven games, including a 27-point performance in a narrow loss to Saint Joseph’s.

Davidson will counter with balanced scoring and defense, holding opponents to an average of 66.2 points per game. Forward Josh Scovens provides an interior presence, averaging 11.8 points and 5.9 rebounds.

For Temple, guard Jordan Mason, who dished out nine assists last game, and forward Aiden Tobiason will look to support Ford’s scoring. Davidson will rely on guard Nick Coval, averaging 10.9 points, to help stretch the floor.

This contest serves as a final tune-up before both teams enter a rigorous stretch. Temple begins American Athletic Conference play in January, while Davidson opens Atlantic 10 competition. The Wildcats face a quick turnaround, visiting Kansas on Monday. Temple hosts Princeton next Monday.

Thursday’s tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST. Davidson holds a 3-2 all-time series edge, but the teams have not met since 2011.
