Boise State Rides Hot Start to Convincing Victory Over Duquesne
BOISE, Idaho (Interstat) — In a commanding wire-to-wire performance fueled by a blistering first-half shooting display, the Boise State Broncos defeated the Duquesne Dukes 86-64 in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday night at Taco Bell Arena.

The most important part of the game was the Broncos’ explosive first-half offense, which built an insurmountable lead. Boise State shot a scorching 9 of 13 from three-point range before halftime, with forward Pearson Carmichael leading the charge. The Bend, Oregon, native scored 20 of his game-high 26 points in the opening period, including four three-pointers, as the Broncos raced to a 45-30 halftime advantage. Duquesne, meanwhile, struggled to find any offensive rhythm, making just 2 of 13 attempts from beyond the arc in the half.
Boise State’s efficiency was staggering. The team finished the game shooting 46.7% from the field and an exceptional 57.1% from three-point range, making 12 of 21. They were also nearly perfect from the free-throw line, converting 18 of 20 attempts. The Broncos’ offensive rating of 118.6 points per 100 possessions dwarfed Duquesne’s mark of 88.2.
Carmichael’s scoring outburst was complemented by a dominant performance from Boise State center Drew Fielder. The hometown product from Boise scored 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting, adding seven rebounds. Guard Javan Buchanan provided 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. The Broncos’ ball movement and shot creation resulted in 18 assists on 28 made field goals.
Duquesne never recovered from the early deficit. The Dukes shot 41.4% overall and were a frigid 5 of 25 from three-point range for the game. They also committed 11 turnovers against just two assists, highlighting their offensive disarray.
Forward Jakub Necas led the Dukes with 13 points, while John Hugley and Jimmie Williams each added 11. Duquesne’s interior defense showed some resistance, blocking six shots, with Necas and David Dixon each recording two.
The second half saw Boise State maintain its comfortable lead, never allowing Duquesne to cut the deficit below 15 points. The Broncos answered every modest Dukes run with timely scores, often generated by their backcourt. Guard Aginaldo Neto facilitated effectively with a game-high four assists.
The victory extended Boise State’s home success and provided momentum heading into a marquee Sunday matchup against Saint Mary’s in Idaho Falls. Duquesne, which had won four of its last five coming in, will look to regroup quickly before a road test at Nevada on Saturday.
According to pregame projections from Interstat’s ELO system, Boise State held a 91.7% probability to win. The Broncos covered the pregame spread of 12 points as favorites. The total score of 150 points fell under the over/under line of 149.
