Chicago State at Youngstown State
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Interstat) — The Youngstown State Penguins, seeking to get back to .500, will host the winless Chicago State Cougars in a non-conference men’s basketball game Friday at Beeghly Center.
The Penguins (3-4) are returning home after splitting a two-game road trip, most recently defeating Georgia Southern 67-61 on Monday. Rich Rolf led the way with 22 points, while Cris Carroll added 16 points.
Chicago State (0-7) remains in search of its first victory after falling 90-77 at Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday. Marcus Tankersley scored 18 points and Doyel Cockrill added 17 in the loss. The Cougars have faced a difficult early-season schedule, with all seven games played on the road and five of those losses coming by 20 or more points.
Youngstown State’s offense will look to exploit a Chicago State defense that has allowed an average of 85.1 points per game. The Penguins are 2-0 at home this season, including a 115-point outburst in a win over Penn St.-Shenango.
Following this game, Youngstown State begins Horizon League play at home against Wright State on Dec. 3. Chicago State’s next opportunity for a win comes Monday when it finally plays its home opener against South Carolina State.
