Southern Indiana at Valparaiso
VALPARAISO, Ind. (Interstat) — The Valparaiso Beacons, riding high from a strong start, will host the struggling Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles in a non-conference men’s basketball game on Wednesday at the Athletics-Recreation Center.
Valparaiso (4-1) has won four straight since a season-opening loss at Kentucky, most recently a 90-75 road victory over Cleveland State on Nov. 19. Rakim Chaney led the way in that contest, scoring 23 points and dishing out 7 assists. Shon Tupuola and Justus McNair each added 21 points.
Conversely, Southern Indiana (1-5) looks to snap a four-game losing skid. The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 84-73 loss at Illinois-Chicago on Saturday, despite a 16-point, 3-block performance from Tolu Samuels. Their lone win this season came against Division III opponent Loras.
The matchup pits Valparaiso’s balanced offense against a Southern Indiana defense that has allowed an average of 83.2 points during its current losing streak. The Screaming Eagles will need another productive afternoon from Samuels and backcourt contributors Kaden Brown and Ismail Habib to challenge the Beacons on their home court.
Wednesday’s game is the first of a quick, two-game homestand for Valparaiso, which hosts Western Michigan on Saturday. Southern Indiana returns home to face Kentucky State on the same day.
