SANBORN, N.Y. (Interstat) — Niagara edged Iona 70-68 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Sunday at Gallagher Center. The Purple Eagles, who led 34-30 at halftime, held off a second-half push from the Gaels. Niagara improved to 7-19 overall, while Iona fell to 15-12. An announced crowd of 836 watched the contest, which saw the final score fall under the projected point total. Iona had been a 5.5-point favorite entering the game. The Purple Eagles avenged a 71-53 loss to the Gaels from Jan. 9.
