Presbyterian at High Point
HIGH POINT, N.C. (Interstat) — A surging High Point team looks to continue its dominant run through the Big South Conference when it hosts a streaky Presbyterian squad on Thursday night at Qubein Arena.
The Panthers (18-4), among the conference leaders, have won 10 of their last 11 games, showcasing one of the league’s most potent offenses. They are coming off a 93-83 road victory at Radford last Friday, powered by a career-high 31 points from standout guard Terry Anderson. Anderson has been on a tear, averaging 24.3 points over his last three contests and scoring 29 or more twice in January.
Presbyterian (11-11) arrives seeking consistency after alternating wins and losses over its past seven games. The Blue Hose are coming off a 72-82 home loss to Winthrop this past Saturday. Guard Carl Parrish, the team’s engine, leads the effort. He is averaging 18.4 points over his last five outings, including a 28-point performance in a narrow win over UNC Asheville on Jan. 14.
The matchup features a stark contrast in season trajectories. High Point’s four losses have come by an average of just 6.5 points, with only the 92-75 defeat at Winthrop on Jan. 14 being a decisive conference blemish. The Panthers have routinely blown out opponents at home, including a 104-49 rout of Gardner-Webb earlier this month.
Presbyterian has shown it can compete, with recent wins over Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville, but has struggled on the road in conference play, losing at Longwood and Radford by double digits earlier in January.
This game marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They will meet again in Clinton, South Carolina, on Feb. 26. For now, the Panthers aim to protect their home court and solidify their standing, while the Blue Hose look to spring a critical road upset behind Parrish’s scoring punch.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Thursday at Qubein Arena.
