ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — A Western Athletic Conference rematch awaits Wednesday night when the Tarleton State Texans visit the Texas-Arlington Mavericks at College Park Center.

The Texans (11-8, 1-3 WAC) will look to replicate their success from Dec. 29, when they secured a 69-63 road victory over the Mavericks. Tarleton State has since lost four straight, including a 75-71 defeat at Utah Tech on Saturday. Guard Camron McDowell has been a bright spot, averaging 25.6 points over his last five games. He scored 23 in the previous win over UTA.

The Mavericks (12-6, 3-2) aim to defend their home court and avenge the earlier loss. They are coming off an 86-74 loss at Utah Valley, which snapped a three-game winning streak. Guard Casmir Chavis, held to zero points in the first meeting with Tarleton, has been more aggressive lately, including a 20-point performance against Utah Valley.

UTA holds a slight edge in the overall season record, but both teams are seeking consistency in conference play. The Mavericks’ defense, which allowed just 52 points in a win at Utah Tech last week, will be tested by McDowell’s high-volume scoring.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST. The game marks the start of the second half of the WAC schedule for both teams. Tarleton State hosts Abilene Christian on Saturday, while Texas-Arlington is off until hosting Southern Utah on Jan. 29.
