High Point Looks to Cap Strong Non-Conference Slate at UNC Asheville
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — The High Point Panthers, riding high from a dominant non-conference performance, visit the UNC Asheville Bulldogs on Wednesday to close the 2025 calendar year and open Big South Conference play for both teams.
High Point (12-3) enters Kimmel Arena with significant momentum, having won five of its last six games. The Panthers are coming off a 123-64 rout of Pfeiffer on Sunday, their third victory by 46 or more points this month. Their only loss since early December was an 86-78 overtime setback at Appalachian State.
The Panthers are led by guard Cam’Ron Fletcher, who is averaging 14.3 points over his last seven games. He posted 18 points and six rebounds in just 21 minutes against Pfeiffer. High Point’s offense has been prolific, scoring 89 or more points in eight of its 12 wins.
UNC Asheville (6-8) seeks consistency after a challenging non-conference schedule. The Bulldogs have lost four of their last six, including a 72-47 defeat at UAB on Dec. 21. They have shown flashes, however, pushing Miami (Ohio) to overtime and defeating Appalachian State earlier in the season.
The Bulldogs will lean on guard Toyaz Solomon, who has been a bright spot. He is averaging 17.1 points over his last seven contests, including a 31-point outburst against Miami (Ohio) and a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double at UAB.
This matchup pits one of the Big South’s hottest teams against a Bulldogs squad looking to defend its home court and start league play on a positive note. High Point’s high-powered offense will test a UNC Asheville defense that has allowed 80 or more points in four of its eight losses.
Wednesday’s game tips off at 7 p.m. EST. Following this contest, High Point hosts Longwood on Saturday, while UNC Asheville travels to face Charleston Southern.
