Western Carolina at High Point
HIGH POINT, N.C. (Interstat) — The surging High Point Panthers, off to their best start in years, will look to extend their winning streak when they host the Western Carolina Catamounts in a non-conference men’s basketball matchup on Saturday.
High Point (6-1) has found its rhythm at Qubein Arena, boasting a perfect 5-0 record on its home court. The Panthers are coming off a 91-80 victory over Incarnate Word last Saturday, powered by a 23-point performance from Terry Anderson. Cam’Ron Fletcher added 18 points and Conrad Martinez dished out six assists in the win. Their lone blemish was a 91-74 road loss to UAB on Nov. 14.
Conversely, Western Carolina (3-3) seeks to rebound from a tough 83-62 road loss at Lipscomb. In that game, Julien Soumaoro led the Catamounts with 15 points. The team has shown a stark contrast in performance, going 3-0 at home with wins over UNC Asheville, Stetson and Voorhees, but struggling to an 0-3 record on the road, including lopsided losses to Duke and Cincinnati.
The game will be a test of High Point’s potent offense against a Western Carolina squad trying to find its footing away from home. The Panthers have averaged 92.3 points in their five home victories this season.
Tipoff is set for Saturday at Qubein Arena. High Point will host Southern Illinois on Dec. 3 in its next contest, while Western Carolina returns home to face Virginia-Lynchburg on Dec. 2.
