Elon at Appalachian State
BOONE, N.C. (Interstat) — The Appalachian State Mountaineers, fresh off a narrow home victory, will host the Elon Phoenix in a non-conference men’s basketball matchup Monday at the Holmes Center.
Appalachian State (4-2) edged Charlotte 65-63 on Friday, with Kasen Jennings leading the way with 15 points. The Mountaineers are 3-0 at home this season, with their wins coming by an average margin of 28.7 points.
Elon (3-2) arrives in the High Country looking to rebound from a 99-72 road loss to Miami (Fla.) on Thursday. Despite the defeat, Randall Pettus scored 17 points and Chandler Cuthrell added 15 for the Phoenix. Elon is 1-1 in true road games this season.
The Phoenix have shown a potent offense, averaging 89.4 points per game, but are allowing 88.0 points per contest. Pettus (17 points) and Cuthrell (15 points) were bright spots in the loss to the Hurricanes.
The Mountaineers have relied on a stronger defense, holding opponents to 67.3 points per game on average. Their two losses came on the road against Power Five opponent Ohio State and at Central Michigan.
This will be the final home game for Appalachian State before a two-game road trip. Elon continues a stretch of three out of four games on the road.
