Jacksonville at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. (Interstat) — The High Point Panthers used a dominant defensive performance and a balanced scoring attack to remain undefeated with an 85-64 victory over the Jacksonville Dolphins in a non-conference men’s basketball game Tuesday night at Qubein Arena.

High Point improved to 3-0 on the young season, while Jacksonville fell to 1-2.

The Panthers seized control early, building a 44-37 halftime lead, and steadily pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Dolphins 41-27 after the break. High Point’s defense was the story of the game, forcing 14 Jacksonville turnovers while committing only three themselves. The Panthers converted those takeaways into 13 points, while the Dolphins managed just two points off turnovers.

Cam’Ron Fletcher led the Panthers with 18 points, showcasing his efficiency in just 23 minutes of action. Terry Anderson provided a significant offensive punch with 17 points, and Chase Johnston added 12, all coming from beyond the arc. The Panthers’ ball movement was superior, dishing out nine assists compared to just two for Jacksonville.

Jacksonville struggled to find any consistent offensive rhythm. The Dolphins shot just 36.7% from the field and a frigid 26.5% from three-point range. Their offensive struggles were encapsulated by an offensive rating of 90.7 points per 100 possessions, a stark contrast to High Point’s efficient mark of 121.0.

Chris Arias was the lone bright spot for the Dolphins, finishing with a team-high 13 points. Evan Sterck facilitated the offense with six assists, and Donovan Rivers contributed nine points, two assists and a block.

High Point also owned advantages in several key hustle categories, outscoring Jacksonville 36-26 in the paint and 18-4 on fast breaks. The Panthers’ ability to get to the free-throw line and convert was another decisive factor, as they made 23 of 30 attempts, while Jacksonville went 11 for 16.

The announced attendance was 2,786.

Jacksonville will look to rebound on the road Saturday at Virginia Military Institute. High Point puts its perfect record on the line Friday with a road test at UAB.
