Preview: UC Davis Visits Cal State Fullerton in Big West Clash
FULLERTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The UC Davis Aggies look to solidify their position in the Big West Conference standings when they visit the Cal State Fullerton Titans on Thursday night at Titan Gymnasium.
The Aggies (16-10, 8-5 Big West) enter with momentum after a decisive 71-54 home victory over Long Beach State last Saturday. UC Davis has won four of its last six games. The Titans (13-14, 6-7), meanwhile, aim to rebound from an 86-65 road loss to UC Irvine that same day. Cal State Fullerton has split its last six contests.
UC Davis won the first meeting this season, 74-69 at home on Jan. 15. The Aggies have relied on the consistent play of guard Marcus Wilson. Over his last five games, Wilson is averaging 18.6 points and 4.6 assists, including a 24-point performance in a win over Cal Poly on Feb. 7. He posted 18 points, six assists and two blocks in the win over Long Beach State.
Cal State Fullerton counters with forward Landon Seaman, who has provided a scoring lift. Seaman is averaging 12.4 points over his last five outings, highlighted by an 18-point game in a win over Cal State Bakersfield on Feb. 7. He led the Titans with 14 points in the loss to UC Irvine.
The matchup features contrasting styles. UC Davis has shown a stout defense, holding opponents to 58 points or fewer in three of its recent wins. Cal State Fullerton’s offense has been potent at home, scoring 78 points or more in three of its last four games at Titan Gymnasium.
With the Big West tournament approaching, the game carries weight for seeding. UC Davis seeks a season sweep to strengthen its hold on a top-four conference spot, while Cal State Fullerton looks to climb back to .500 in league play and even the season series.
Following this game, UC Davis travels to UC Riverside on Saturday. Cal State Fullerton will hit the road to face Cal State Bakersfield that same day.
