Cal State Fullerton at UC Irvine
IRVINE, Calif. (Interstat) — A pivotal Big West Conference rematch awaits Saturday as UC Irvine hosts Cal State Fullerton at Bren Events Center.
The Anteaters (16-8, 6-3 Big West), sitting near the top of the conference standings, look to complete a regular-season sweep after dominating the first meeting 86-64 on Jan. 3. UC Irvine has won four of its last six but is coming off an 84-79 road loss at UC Santa Barbara last Saturday. Guard Andre Henry, who scored 18 points in that defeat, has been a consistent scorer. He averages 13.4 points per game and has reached double figures in five of his last six outings.
The visiting Titans (12-13, 5-5) have shown recent resilience, winning three of their last four to climb back to .500 in league play. Their most recent win was an 82-66 victory over Cal State Bakersfield on Feb. 7. Forward Landon Seaman led the way with 18 points, three assists and two blocks, continuing a strong stretch where he has averaged 11.3 points over his last six games.
UC Irvine holds a significant edge in the season series recently, having won the last four head-to-head meetings. The Anteaters’ defense, which allows just 66.2 points per game, will be tested by a Fullerton offense that has averaged 78.5 points during its recent 3-1 surge.
A win would bolster UC Irvine’s position in the conference race, while Cal State Fullerton aims to even its conference record and gain crucial momentum for the final stretch before the Big West tournament. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. PST on Saturday, Feb. 14.
