Cal State Fullerton at Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Interstat) — A pivotal Big West Conference rematch is set for Thursday night when the Cal State Fullerton Titans visit the Long Beach State 49ers at the Walter Pyramid.

The Titans (12-13, 6-4 Big West) enter with momentum, having won three of their last four, including a convincing 82-66 victory over Cal State Bakersfield on Feb. 7. They will look to complete a regular-season sweep after defeating the 49ers 71-61 in Fullerton on Jan. 22.

Cal State Fullerton is led by guard Landon Seaman, who is coming off an 18-point, three-assist performance against Bakersfield. In the teams’ first meeting, Seaman contributed seven points and four assists. Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro and Josh Ward have provided consistent support, combining for 23 points and 10 assists in the recent win.

Long Beach State (8-16, 3-7), meanwhile, seeks to halt a four-game skid. The 49ers fell 77-74 at UC San Diego on Feb. 5 despite a 22-point effort from guard Shaquil Bender. Bender has been a bright spot, averaging 19.3 points over his last three games, a significant surge after being limited to just two minutes in the loss at Fullerton last month. Teammates Rob Diaz and Petar Majstorovic have also shown scoring ability, each posting 18-plus points in the recent narrow defeat.

The matchup features two teams heading in opposite directions within the conference standings. Fullerton’s balanced attack, which has produced 78 or more points in three of its last four wins, will test a Long Beach State defense that has allowed an average of 77.5 points during its losing streak.

Thursday’s contest is the first of two road games this week for the Titans, who visit UC Irvine on Saturday. The 49ers continue a tough stretch, traveling to face UC Davis on Saturday.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
