Alabama A&M at Southern

BATON ROUGE, La. (Interstat) — A pair of SWAC teams heading in opposite directions will meet Saturday when the Alabama A&M Bulldogs visit the Southern Jaguars at the Clark Activity Center.

Alabama A&M (12-10) looks to rebound from a lopsided home loss, while Southern (9-13) aims to build on the momentum of a thrilling overtime road victory in its last outing.

The Bulldogs are coming off a difficult 80-62 defeat to Bethune-Cookman on Monday, a game where their offense stalled. They will lean heavily on guard Koron Davis, who has been a consistent scoring threat. Davis poured in 22 points in the loss and is averaging 17.4 points over his last eight games, including four performances of 22 points or more. His play will be critical for a Bulldogs squad that had won three of four prior to the Bethune-Cookman setback.

Southern, however, arrives with confidence after a 96-91 overtime win at Jackson State on Monday. The Jaguars were fueled by a career-high 26 points from guard Fazl Oshodi, who played 35 minutes. Oshodi’s scoring outburst was a welcome sign for a Southern team that has struggled for consistency but has shown flashes, including wins in three of its last five conference games.

The matchup features a contrast in recent results. Alabama A&M has the better overall record, but its form has been uneven, alternating wins and losses over its past six SWAC contests. Southern sits below .500 but has proven capable at home in conference play, notching key wins over Texas Southern and Mississippi Valley State in Baton Rouge this season.

Historically, games between these teams are often tightly contested. They will meet again in the regular-season finale on March 5 in Huntsville, Alabama, adding a potential preview element to Saturday’s clash.

For Alabama A&M, the focus will be on defensive intensity after allowing 80 points in its last game. For Southern, replicating the offensive efficiency and late-game execution from the Jackson State win will be the goal. Tipoff is set for Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Baton Rouge.
