Northeastern at Stony Brook
STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Interstat) — A surging Stony Brook squad will look to complete a regular-season sweep when it hosts struggling Northeastern in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball matchup Saturday at Island Federal Credit Union Arena.
The Seawolves (14-9) have won four of their last five games, including a 95-80 road victory over the Huskies on Jan. 22. Stony Brook most recently edged Elon 72-68 last Saturday behind a strong all-around performance from forward Andrej Shoshkikj, who had 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Shoshkikj has been a consistent force, averaging 19.2 points over his last five contests. He scored 22 points in the first meeting with Northeastern.
The Huskies (6-15) enter on a five-game losing skid, though they have been competitive. Their last outing was a narrow 89-84 home loss to College of Charleston on Jan. 31, despite a career-high 36 points from guard William Kermoury.
Kermoury has emerged as a dynamic scorer for Northeastern, averaging 26 points over his last six games. He was held to 12 points in the prior matchup with Stony Brook. Support from guards Luca Soroa Schaller, who had a 13-point, 15-rebound double-double against Charleston, and Mike Loughnane will be crucial.
Stony Brook’s balanced attack and home-court advantage make them the favorite, but Northeastern’s high-scoring backcourt, led by Kermoury, poses a threat capable of snapping the Seawolves’ momentum. The Huskies will seek to avenge their earlier loss and salvage a split in the season series.
Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
