Undefeated Miami (Ohio) Visits Buffalo in MAC Showdown

AMHERST, N.Y. (Interstat) — The nation’s last remaining undefeated team in Division I men’s basketball puts its perfect record on the line Tuesday when Miami (Ohio) visits Buffalo in a Mid-American Conference clash.

The Redhawks (22-0, 10-0 MAC) have navigated a gauntlet of close conference calls, including a 105-102 overtime win over these same Bulls just over two weeks ago on Jan. 17. Buffalo (14-7, 5-5), seeking to bolster its conference standing, will have revenge on its mind at Alumni Arena.

Miami’s remarkable run has been fueled by balance and clutch play. Forward Antwone Woolfolk, coming off a 14-point, 12-rebound performance in an 85-61 rout of Northern Illinois, has been a consistent force. In the first meeting with Buffalo, Woolfolk logged 33 minutes with 12 points and four assists.

The Bulls, however, have proven they can challenge the nation’s best. Guard Daniel Freitag torched the Redhawks for 22 points and eight assists in the January loss and is averaging 22.2 points over his last five games, including a 33-point effort against Kent State. Buffalo’s backcourt, featuring Freitag and Ryan Sabol (22 points vs. Ohio last outing), provides a potent scoring threat.

Despite their record, the Redhawks have shown vulnerability in MAC play, winning four of their last six conference games by six points or fewer, including two in overtime. Their offense, however, is relentless, scoring 100 or more points in three of their last seven games.

Buffalo has struggled recently, dropping four of its last six, including a 95-83 home loss to Ohio on Saturday. Defense will be the key; the Bulls allowed 105 points to Miami in the first matchup and have conceded an average of 84.2 points in their five conference losses.

The showdown presents a stark contrast: Miami’s historic pursuit of perfection against a Buffalo team desperate for a season-defining win on its home floor. The Bulls aim to become the first team to solve the Redhawks’ puzzle, while Miami looks to continue its march toward an unprecedented MAC season.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST.
