Hawaii at Long Beach State
Preview: Hawaii Looks to Extend Win Streak at Long Beach State
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Hawaii men’s basketball team visits a struggling Long Beach State squad in a Big West Conference matchup Saturday at Walter Pyramid.
The Warriors (15-4, 5-2 Big West) enter on a two-game winning streak after decisive home victories last week over Cal State Bakersfield and Cal State Northridge. The 49ers (8-13, 3-4), meanwhile, have lost three of their last four, including a narrow 74-71 home loss to UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 24.
Hawaii’s success has been built on efficient offense and defense, averaging 86.5 points in their last two wins. A key catalyst has been guard Isaac Johnson, who scored 18 points in just 15 minutes off the bench in the win over CSUN. Over his last seven games, Johnson is averaging 12.3 points in under 18 minutes per contest, providing a consistent spark.
Long Beach State will counter with guard Petar Majstorovic, its leading offensive threat. He poured in 21 points in the loss to UCSB and is averaging 18.3 points over his last seven outings. The 49ers will need a major performance from him to keep pace with a deep Hawaii rotation that saw three players score in double figures with at least three assists in the latest win.
The venue offers little comfort for the home team. Long Beach State is just 5-6 at the Pyramid this season. Hawaii boasts a strong 5-2 road record, though one of those losses was a 77-62 defeat at UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 17.
This game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They will meet again in Honolulu on March 7 to close the conference schedule.
For Long Beach State, the game begins a critical three-game homestand. Hawaii continues a stretch of playing four of its last five games on the road before a favorable late-season homestand.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026.
