Harvard at Yale

Preview: Harvard Visits Yale in Key Ivy League Showdown

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Interstat) — A surging Yale squad will look to protect its home court and solidify its position atop the Ivy League when it hosts rival Harvard on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (15-3, 5-1 Ivy) enter the weekend matchup at Payne Whitney Gymnasium as one of the conference’s hottest teams, having won five of their last six games. Their lone league loss came on the road against Princeton on Jan. 10. Yale is coming off an 83-68 victory over Dartmouth on Friday, led by Nick Townsend’s 16 points and seven assists.

Townsend has been a consistent force for Yale. Over his last six games, the guard is averaging 16.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per contest, including a 25-point, eight-rebound performance against Columbia on Jan. 19.

Harvard (11-9, 4-2) arrives in New Haven after a 69-59 road win at Brown on Friday. The Crimson have shown resilience, with three of their Ivy League victories coming by four points or fewer, including an overtime win over Princeton.

The Crimson will lean on guard Robert Hinton, who scored 22 points in the win at Brown. Hinton has been on a scoring tear, averaging over 18 points per game in his last six outings, highlighted by a 27-point effort at Columbia on Jan. 10.

Yale’s defense, which has held opponents to 60 points or fewer in three of its last five games, will be tested by a Harvard offense that has scored 79 or more points in three of its last four wins.

The Bulldogs won both meetings last season. The teams will meet again in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Feb. 14.

Saturday’s contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. EST tip-off. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
