Preview: Florida A&M at Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Interstat) — SWAC rivals Alabama A&M and Florida A&M will meet Saturday at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium, with the Bulldogs looking to solidify their standing and the Rattlers aiming to climb back to .500 in conference play.

Alabama A&M (11-9) enters with momentum after a decisive 80-60 road victory at Prairie View A&M on Tuesday. Koron Davis led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds, continuing a stretch of consistent scoring. The junior guard has scored in double figures in seven consecutive games, averaging 15.3 points per contest during that span. The Bulldogs have shown offensive firepower, including a 100-point outing against Jackson State on Jan. 12, but have struggled with consistency, alternating wins and losses over their last six games.

Florida A&M (8-10) arrives looking to rebound from a heartbreaking 66-65 home loss to Jackson State on Monday. In that game, Kaleb Washington scored 17 points, but the Rattlers fell short on a last-second basket. Washington’s production has been variable; he followed a season-high 18 points against Grambling on Jan. 12 with quieter performances before his 17-point effort Monday. The Rattlers had won three straight prior to the loss, including a 66-58 win over Alcorn State.

The Bulldogs won the first meeting this season, 83-75, in Tallahassee on Jan. 3. Davis scored 17 points in that victory, while Washington was held scoreless in seven minutes for FAMU.

Alabama A&M holds a 4-3 record at Elmore Gymnasium this season. Florida A&M is 2-7 in true road games. The Bulldogs currently sit in the upper half of the SWAC standings, while the Rattlers are in the bottom half.

Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. CST Saturday. Alabama A&M will host Bethune-Cookman on Monday. Florida A&M travels to face Alabama State on Monday.
