Florida Gulf Coast at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the ASUN Conference will meet when the Jacksonville Dolphins host the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Saturday at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

Both teams enter the matchup with identical 8-13 overall records. The game is a crucial opportunity for either squad to climb the conference standings and build consistency as the regular season enters its final month.

Florida Gulf Coast arrives after a difficult road trip, having lost 86-71 at Lipscomb last Friday and 83-62 at Austin Peay on Jan. 22. The Eagles have lost five of their last six games, with the lone win in that stretch a 90-72 victory over West Georgia on Jan. 17.

The Eagles will lean on forward Isaiah Malone, who is coming off a standout performance in the loss to Lipscomb. Malone scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds in 32 minutes. Over his last seven games, he has averaged 12.6 points and has been a consistent shot-blocking presence, recording multiple blocks in four of those contests.

Jacksonville snapped a two-game skid with an 81-76 overtime victory at home against Eastern Kentucky last Saturday. The Dolphins have shown flashes, including a dominant 90-68 win at North Alabama on Jan. 17, but have struggled with offensive consistency in several losses.

Guard Chris Lockett is the catalyst for the Dolphins. He erupted for a season-high 25 points in the win over Eastern Kentucky, demonstrating his scoring potential. However, his production has varied, scoring five points or fewer in three of his last seven outings. Jacksonville’s success often hinges on Lockett’s offensive output.

The Eagles won the first meeting between the teams this season, 72-55, at North Alabama on Jan. 3, though Malone was held to 11 points. They will complete a regular-season series home-and-home in Fort Myers on Feb. 19.

Saturday’s contest tips off at 5 p.m. EST. Following this game, Florida Gulf Coast travels to face Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 5, while Jacksonville hits the road to play Queens (N.C.) on the same date.
