UNC Wilmington at Towson

Preview: UNC Wilmington at Towson

TOWSON, Md. (Interstat) — A surging UNC Wilmington team riding a six-game winning streak will face a Towson squad seeking consistency in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball matchup Thursday afternoon at SECU Arena.

The Seahawks (18-3, 7-1 CAA) have established themselves as the class of the conference, with their only league loss coming on the road at William & Mary on Jan. 22. They rebounded with a 75-67 victory at Hampton on Saturday, led by guard Greedy Williams’ 19 points and seven assists. Williams, averaging 12.4 points and 5.4 assists in conference play, has been a catalyst, dishing at least seven assists in four of his last eight games.

UNCW’s balanced attack also features forwards Patrick Wessler and Nolan Hodge, who combined for 29 points and 14 rebounds in the win at Hampton.

The host Tigers (12-10, 4-4) look to bounce back from an 80-73 loss at North Carolina A&T, which snapped a three-game winning streak. Forward Tyler Tejada has been a bright spot, scoring 22 points and grabbing seven rebounds in that defeat. He is averaging 16.1 points in CAA play and has scored in double figures in seven consecutive contests.

Towson will need a strong defensive effort to slow the Seahawks’ efficient offense. UNCW leads the CAA in scoring margin in conference games (+9.1 ppg), while Towson has struggled at times, alternating wins and losses over its last eight.

The Tigers won both meetings last season, but this year’s Seahawks present a far greater challenge. A Towson victory would provide a major resume boost, while UNCW aims to continue its dominance and protect its place atop the league standings.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
