Utah Valley at California Baptist
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — A pivotal Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball showdown is set for Saturday when the Utah Valley Wolverines visit the California Baptist Lancers at CBU Events Center.
Both teams enter with strong overall records, as Utah Valley stands at 15-5 and California Baptist at 14-6. The matchup is a quick rematch of a Dec. 29 game in Orem, which the Wolverines won 73-66.
Utah Valley aims to rebound from a surprising 84-70 road loss at Southern Utah on Wednesday, which snapped a three-game winning streak. The Wolverines will lean on guard Jackson Holcombe, who has been a consistent offensive force. In the last meeting with CBU, Holcombe scored 25 points and dished five assists. He is coming off a 26-point performance in the loss to Southern Utah.
California Baptist has won three of its last four, most recently a 73-64 home victory over Utah Tech on Wednesday. The Lancers are powered by guard Dominique Daniels, who matched Holcombe’s recent output with 26 points of his own in that win. Daniels was held to 17 points in the first matchup against Utah Valley.
The game features two of the WAC’s top backcourt players in Holcombe and Daniels, whose scoring prowess will likely dictate the tempo. California Baptist will seek to defend its home court and avenge the late-December loss, while Utah Valley looks to regain momentum on the road and solidify its conference standing.
Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026. The Lancers’ next game is at Texas-Arlington on Jan. 31. The Wolverines travel to face Tarleton State on Jan. 29.
