Tennessee at Alabama
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Interstat) — A pivotal Southeastern Conference men’s basketball clash is set for Saturday at Coleman Coliseum as the Alabama Crimson Tide host the Tennessee Volunteers.
Both teams enter with identical 3-2 conference records, seeking momentum in a tight league race. Alabama (13-5 overall) is riding a two-game winning streak after an 83-81 road victory at Oklahoma last Saturday. Tennessee (12-5) looks to rebound from a narrow 80-78 home loss to Kentucky on the same day.
The matchup features two of the SEC’s most dynamic players. Tennessee guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie is averaging 22.2 points over his last five games, including a 34-point outburst in a win over Texas on Jan. 6. He leads the Volunteers with 24 points and 8 assists in the loss to Kentucky.
Alabama will counter with forward Aiden Sherrell, who is coming off a dominant 21-point, 9-rebound performance at Oklahoma. Over his last three games, Sherrell is averaging 18.7 points and shooting over 60% from the field, providing a critical interior presence for the high-scoring Crimson Tide.
The game pits Alabama’s potent offense, which ranks among the nation’s leaders in scoring, against Tennessee’s traditionally stout defense. The Volunteers have struggled recently on the road in SEC play, including a 91-67 loss at Florida on Jan. 10.
This contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the rivals. They will meet again in Knoxville on Feb. 28. Tennessee holds a 7-3 advantage in the last 10 matchups, but Alabama won the most recent meeting in the 2025 SEC Tournament.
Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. CST. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
