Morgan State at Howard
Preview: Morgan State Bears at Howard Bison
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — A Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rivalry resumes Saturday at Burr Gymnasium as the Howard Bison host the Morgan State Bears.
Howard (12-8, 3-2 MEAC) enters with a stronger overall record and seeks to solidify its standing in the conference. The Bison have won three of their last four, including an 83-69 road victory at North Carolina Central on Jan. 17. They are coming off a 78-69 non-conference home win over Morehouse on Monday.
Morgan State (6-13, 2-2) looks to build momentum from a two-game winning streak, though its most recent victory was a 128-53 rout of non-Division I Virginia-Lynchburg on Tuesday. The Bears’ prior win was a narrow 80-79 conference road win at Delaware State on Jan. 17.
A key matchup will feature two of the MEAC’s top performers. Morgan State guard Alfred Worrell enters on a scoring tear, averaging 22.2 points over his last five games against Division I opponents. He exploded for 29 points against North Carolina Central on Jan. 12 and scored 23 in just 13 minutes against Virginia-Lynchburg.
Howard will counter with versatile forward Cedric Taylor, who is coming off a dominant 15-point, 13-rebound, 7-assist performance against Morehouse. Over his last three games, Taylor has averaged 15.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists, providing a all-around threat for the Bison.
The Bears have struggled on the road this season, with losses at California, San Francisco and DePaul by an average of 38 points. Their conference road record is 1-1. Howard is 6-2 at home this season.
Historically, this series has been closely contested. Saturday’s game is the first of two regular-season meetings, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 28 in Baltimore.
Following this game, Morgan State travels to face Norfolk State on Jan. 26. Howard will visit Coppin State on the same date.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at Burr Gymnasium in Washington.
