Columbia at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Interstat) — A surging Columbia squad looks to rebound from a lopsided conference loss when it visits struggling Brown in an Ivy League men’s basketball matchup Saturday at Pizzitola Sports Center.

The Lions (12-4, 0-1 Ivy) saw a five-game win streak snapped emphatically last Saturday in a 79-54 home loss to Harvard. Columbia, which had averaged 97.6 points during its streak, was held to a season-low in scoring. Guard Connor Igoe led the team with nine points in the defeat.

Igoe has been a versatile contributor for Columbia. Prior to the Harvard game, he posted a triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in a win over Penn St.-Abington on Dec. 31, and nearly had another with six points, nine rebounds and six assists at North Florida on Dec. 28.

Brown (5-9, 0-2) seeks its first conference win after falling at Penn 81-73 last Saturday. The Bears have lost three straight, including a 70-53 home loss to Yale on Jan. 5.

Forward N’famara Dabo has been a bright spot for Brown, scoring 17 points with seven rebounds in the loss at Penn. He is averaging 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds over his last two games.

Columbia’s offense, which ranks among the nation’s most efficient, will be tested by a Brown defense that has allowed 70 or more points in eight of its nine losses. The Lions scored 104 points in a win at Cornell on Jan. 5.

Historically, the series has been tight, but Columbia won both meetings last season. This begins a critical early Ivy League stretch for both teams.

Saturday’s game tips off at 2 p.m. EST. Columbia travels to Yale on Monday, while Brown hosts Cornell.
