College of Charleston at Stony Brook
STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Interstat) — A pair of teams looking to build momentum in Colonial Athletic Association play will meet Saturday when the Stony Brook Seawolves host the College of Charleston Cougars at Island Federal Credit Union Arena.
The Cougars (11-7) arrive after a tough 61-52 road loss at Towson on Thursday, which snapped a five-game winning streak. Charleston will lean on guard Connor Hickman, who scored 20 points in that defeat and has been a consistent offensive threat. Over his last seven games, Hickman is averaging 12.0 points, including a 16-point performance in a win at Northern Kentucky.
The Seawolves (10-9) are coming off a more positive result, a 76-71 home victory over Hofstra on Thursday. That win was fueled by a standout performance from guard Andrej Shoshkikj, who matched his season-high with 20 points. Shoshkikj has shown high-scoring potential, having poured in 27 points in a win over North Carolina A&T on Jan. 3, but his production has been inconsistent in recent outings.
Both teams have shown similar patterns this season, mixing promising wins with puzzling losses. Charleston’s offense, which averages 77.2 points per game, will test a Stony Brook defense that allows an average of 69.6. The Cougars have been strong on the road in non-conference play, but are just 1-1 in true road games against CAA opponents.
Stony Brook will aim to protect its home court, where it holds a 7-3 record this season. The Seawolves’ backcourt duo of Shoshkikj and Richard Goods, who also had 20 points and six assists against Hofstra, will be crucial in countering Charleston’s backcourt pressure.
Saturday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this regular season. The game tips off at 4 p.m. EST as part of a full slate of CAA action.
