Towson at Northeastern

BOSTON (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to reverse early conference slides will meet Saturday when the Towson Tigers visit the Northeastern Huskies in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball matchup at Matthews Arena.

Both teams enter on losing streaks. Towson (8-9, 0-2 CAA) has dropped four straight, including a 78-67 home loss to Hofstra on Thursday. Northeastern (5-10, 0-2) has lost three consecutive games, most recently an 87-78 defeat to UNC Wilmington on its home floor.

The game will feature a clash of backcourt talents. Towson’s hopes will lean heavily on sophomore guard Tyler Tejada, who is coming off a 22-point, six-rebound, five-assist performance against Hofstra. Over his last five games, Tejada is averaging 16.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists, showcasing his all-around capability. He recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds at William & Mary on Dec. 29.

Northeastern will counter with junior guard Youri Fritz, who erupted for 21 points in the loss to UNCW. Fritz has been inconsistent but explosive, scoring 17 points in a narrow loss at Syracuse and 14 in a road win at North Carolina A&T in late December.

While both offenses have shown flashes, consistency has been an issue. Towson’s four-game skid includes scoring outputs of 48, 62, 62 and 67 points. Northeastern’s defense, which allowed an average of 92.3 points in its last three losses, will be tested to create stops.

Historically, Matthews Arena has provided a home-court edge for the Huskies, but they are just 3-4 there this season. Towson is 1-6 in true road games.

A win for either team would provide a crucial first conference victory and a measure of momentum before the heart of the CAA schedule. Following this game, Towson hosts College of Charleston on Jan. 15, while Northeastern remains home to face Elon on the same date.

Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, in Boston.
