Jacksonville at Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Austin Peay Governors will look to continue their strong start to ASUN Conference play when they host the Jacksonville Dolphins on Saturday at Winfield Dunn Center.

Austin Peay (7-5, 1-0 ASUN) opened its conference schedule with an emphatic 102-83 victory over North Florida on Thursday. The Governors have won three straight games and four of their last five, showcasing an offense that has averaged 92.6 points during the winning streak.

Jacksonville (5-9, 0-1) seeks to rebound from a 57-76 road loss at Lipscomb to begin league play. The Dolphins have lost five consecutive games, with their last win coming on Dec. 2 against Florida A&M. Their current skid includes road defeats at Power Five programs Florida State and Texas A&M.

A player to watch for the Dolphins is Donovan Rivers, who is coming off a double-double performance. In the loss to Lipscomb, Rivers logged 30 minutes, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He will be a key factor for Jacksonville against a physical Austin Peay frontcourt.

The Governors have found success at home this season, boasting a 5-1 record in Clarksville. Their lone home loss was a 63-50 setback to Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Dec. 7. Since then, they have posted dominant home wins over Northern Illinois, Fisk, and North Florida.

Jacksonville’s challenge will be slowing an Austin Peay attack that has found its rhythm. The Dolphins have allowed an average of 84.1 points during their five-game losing streak. Conversely, Austin Peay’s defense has held opponents to 68.6 points per game in its last five outings.

Saturday’s contest marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the schools this season. They are scheduled to meet again in Jacksonville on Feb. 26.

Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon in Clarksville.
