Alabama State at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Cincinnati Bearcats look to steady themselves after back-to-back road losses when they host the Alabama State Hornets in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup Wednesday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena.

Cincinnati (6-4) enters on a two-game skid, most recently falling 84-65 at Georgia last Saturday. The Bearcats have struggled offensively in their losses, a trend they aim to reverse at home, where they are 4-1 this season. A key to their success will be forward Baba Miller, who is averaging 10.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He is coming off an 11-point, seven-rebound performance against the Bulldogs.

Alabama State (3-7) seeks to end a five-game losing streak, a difficult stretch that includes road defeats at New Mexico, Tennessee-Martin and Missouri. The Hornets fell 85-77 at Missouri last Thursday despite a 23-point effort from guard Asjon Anderson. Anderson has been a bright spot, scoring 30 points against New Mexico and averaging 19.2 points over his last six games. He will be the primary offensive focus for an Alabama State team that has allowed 80 or more points in four of its seven losses.

The Bearcats will have a significant size advantage and will look to establish their interior presence early. Protecting the ball will be crucial for the Hornets, as Cincinnati’s defense will apply pressure to disrupt Anderson and create transition opportunities.

This game marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs. For Cincinnati, it serves as a final tune-up before a challenging stretch that includes a neutral-site game against Clemson and the start of Big 12 Conference play. Alabama State continues a brutal road swing, with this being the eighth of its first 11 games played away from home before it opens Southwestern Athletic Conference action in January.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday at Fifth Third Arena.
