Brown Pulls Away From Bryant for Home Victory
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Interstat) — The Brown Bears used a dominant first-half offensive display to seize control and never looked back, defeating the Bryant Bulldogs 75-56 in a nonconference men’s basketball game Friday night at Pizzitola Sports Center.
A crowd of 610 watched the Bears improve to 3-6 on the season, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-7.
The most important part of the game was Brown’s explosive start, which effectively decided the contest before halftime. The Bears raced out to a 13-5 lead in the opening four minutes, fueled by early 3-pointers from Luke Paragon and Jeremiah Jenkins. Bryant struggled with turnovers and missed shots, allowing Brown to build a commanding 41-28 lead by the intermission. The Bulldogs never recovered from that early deficit, as the Bears’ lead never dipped below 13 points in the second half.
Brown’s offense was efficient and balanced, with five players scoring in double figures. Adrian Uchidiuno, a sophomore from Markham, Canada, led the way with 13 points, while Jenkins, a freshman from New Britain, Connecticut, added 12 points and a game-high six assists. Landon Lewis contributed 11 points and David Rochester chipped in 10.
Bryant was led by Ty Tabales, who scored a game-high 19 points. Quincy Allen added 15 points and three blocked shots for the Bulldogs.
The Bears shot effectively from the field, while Bryant’s offense was hampered by poor shooting and 14 turnovers, which Brown converted into 18 points. The Bulldogs also managed just two fast-break points, highlighting Brown’s success in controlling the tempo.
Brown set the tone from the opening tip. After a Bryant turnover, Paragon connected on a 3-pointer just 57 seconds into the game for the first points. A layup by Lewis and another Jenkins three pushed the lead to 10-3 less than three minutes in. Bryant’s Keegan Harvey hit two free throws to briefly interrupt the run, but Brown answered with a 7-0 spurt, capped by an Isaiah Langham 3-pointer, to take a 17-5 lead with 14:45 left in the half.
The Bulldogs showed brief signs of life, with Allen hitting a three and Tabales converting free throws to cut the deficit to 20-12. However, Brown responded with another surge. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Brady Loughlin and Jenkins extended the lead to 33-17. Bryant’s offense, reliant on Tabales and Allen, could not string together enough stops or scores to mount a serious challenge. The Bears closed the half on an 8-4 run, including a late layup by N’Famara Dabo, to take the 13-point advantage into the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Brown opened with a Paragon 3-pointer, and whenever Bryant threatened to cut the lead to single digits, the Bears had an answer. A driving layup by Tabales made it 49-36 with 17:38 to play, but Brown scored the next six points. A 3-pointer by Adrian Uchidiuno with 6:02 remaining gave the Bears their largest lead at 68-48, effectively sealing the outcome.
Both teams emptied their benches in the final minute, with Brown’s Drew Kania making two free throws for the final margin.
According to pregame analytics from Interstat, Bryant had been projected with a 55.2% probability to win, but Brown defied those odds as a 5.5-point favorite. The combined score of 131 points fell under the betting over/under line of 129.5.
Brown looks to build on the win when it hosts Division III Elms College on Saturday. Bryant, which had won two of its last three coming in, will try to regroup on the road at Iona next Wednesday.
