Indiana Rolls Past Bethune-Cookman to Remain Undefeated
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Interstat) — In a dominant display of offensive efficiency and defensive pressure, the Indiana Hoosiers remained undefeated Saturday, overwhelming the visiting Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 100-56 in a non-conference men’s basketball game at a sold-out Assembly Hall.
From the opening tip, the Hoosiers established control, never trailing and building a commanding 51-23 lead by halftime. The victory improved Indiana’s record to a perfect 7-0, while Bethune-Cookman fell to 2-6.
Indiana’s attack was a model of precision, scoring 100 points on just 74 possessions for a blistering offensive rating of 135.1. The Hoosiers shot 54.5 percent from the field, connecting on 36 of 66 attempts. Their success from beyond the arc was a key factor, as they made 12 three-pointers on 31 tries. The team was equally effective at the free-throw line, converting 16 of 19 attempts.
Bethune-Cookman, by contrast, struggled to find any offensive rhythm against Indiana’s stifling defense. The Wildcats managed an offensive rating of just 80.0, shooting 18 for 58 from the floor, a 31 percent clip. They hit only 3 of 15 three-point attempts. While they found some success at the line, making 17 of 21 free throws, they were unable to generate consistent scoring opportunities.
The statistical disparity was evident across the board. Indiana dominated points in the paint, 48-24, and capitalized on Bethune-Cookman’s mistakes, scoring 17 points off 11 Wildcat turnovers. The Hoosiers also held advantages in fastbreak points, 11-6, and assists, 28-7, showcasing superior ball movement and transition play.
Tucker DeVries led all scorers with 20 points for Indiana, demonstrating his efficiency from the perimeter. Lamar Wilkerson provided a significant spark off the bench, adding 18 points. The Hoosiers also received strong contributions from their frontcourt, as Sam Alexis and Trent Sisley each scored 14 points, with Sisley pulling down a team-high nine rebounds. Nick Dorn also chipped in 14 points, all in the second half.
The Hoosiers’ backcourt orchestrated the offense effectively. Conor Enright dished out a game-high seven assists, while Tayton Conerway and DeVries each added five. Defensively, Reed Bailey recorded two blocks and seven rebounds.
For Bethune-Cookman, Jakobi Heady was a bright spot, finishing with 15 points and eight rebounds. Daniel Rouzan added 10 points in the losing effort.
The game’s outcome was never in doubt after Indiana opened on a 14-2 run, a stretch that included a four-point play from DeVries. The Hoosiers continued to build their lead throughout the first half, with their advantage swelling to 28 points at the break.
The second half saw more of the same, as Indiana’s depth and execution proved too much for the Wildcats. The Hoosiers cruised to the 44-point victory, their largest margin of the season, in front of an announced crowd of 12,192.
Indiana now looks ahead to its Big Ten Conference opener on the road against Minnesota on Wednesday. Bethune-Cookman will return home to face South Carolina State next Friday as it seeks to snap a three-game losing streak.
