Coppin State at VCU
RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — The VCU Rams look to get back over .500 when they host the struggling Coppin State Eagles in a nonconference men’s basketball game Saturday at the Siegel Center.
VCU (2-2) is coming off a narrow 85-79 road loss to North Carolina State on Monday. Barry Evans led the Rams with 18 points and five rebounds, while Jadrian Tracey added 16 points and a team-high seven assists. The Rams’ season has been a mix of highs, including a 78-61 win over Saint Peter’s, and tough losses, such as an 80-77 defeat to Utah State.
Coppin State (1-5) enters with momentum from its first victory, a 103-62 rout of Central Penn on Tuesday. Torrin Andrews was dominant in that win, posting 20 points, six rebounds and six assists. Demariontay Hall added 18 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
That win, however, stands in stark contrast to the Eagles’ first five games, all double-digit road losses to Division I opponents, including a 100-50 defeat at South Florida and an 87-59 loss at La Salle.
The game represents a final tune-up for VCU before it heads to Nassau, The Bahamas, to face South Florida next Wednesday. Coppin State continues a grueling road stretch, traveling to Rider next Tuesday.
