Grambling at California Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — The unbeaten California Baptist Lancers will put their perfect record on the line Friday when they host the Grambling Tigers in a non-conference men’s basketball matchup at the CBU Events Center.

California Baptist (4-0) is off to its best start in recent seasons, coming off a dominant 80-57 victory over crosstown rival UC Riverside on Tuesday. Dominique Daniels led the way with 25 points in that win, part of a Lancers offense that has averaged 76.3 points per game.

Grambling (3-2) arrives looking to rebound from a 78-68 road loss to San Diego on Tuesday, which snapped a two-game winning streak. Despite the loss, guard Antonio Munoz turned in a strong performance, scoring 21 points. The Tigers have shown resilience, with their two losses coming on the road against San Diego and a powerful Iowa State team.

The game pits Grambling’s offense, led by Munoz and Derrius Ward, against a stout California Baptist defense that has held its first four opponents to an average of 59.5 points. The Lancers have yet to play a true road game this season, making their 4-0 start at home a point of confidence.

Friday’s contest is the first-ever meeting between the two programs. For Grambling, it is the final tune-up before a Monday rematch with UC Riverside. California Baptist will look to maintain its momentum before heading to a multi-team event in Palm Desert next week.
