Stephen F. Austin at Pepperdine
MALIBU, Calif. (Interstat) — The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks look to rebound from their first loss of the season when they visit the Pepperdine Waves in a non-conference men’s basketball game Friday at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Stephen F. Austin (4-1) saw its four-game winning streak snapped in a narrow 80-78 road loss at Fresno State on Tuesday. Lateef Patrick led the Lumberjacks with 27 points in that contest, while Keon Thompson added 13 points and six assists.
Pepperdine (3-2) is coming off a 90-79 home victory over New Orleans on Tuesday. Javon Cooley scored 23 points for the Waves, while Styles Phipps recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists.
The Lumberjacks’ high-powered offense has averaged 85.6 points per game this season, a strength that will be tested by a Pepperdine squad that has shown resilience at home. The Waves’ two losses came in overtime against Northern Colorado and on the road against UCLA.
This matchup begins a challenging stretch for Pepperdine, which will host Fresno State next Wednesday before a four-game road trip. Stephen F. Austin continues its early-season travel before returning home to face Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Dec. 3.
