South Carolina Upstate at West Georgia
CARROLLTON, Ga. (Interstat) — The West Georgia Wolves and South Carolina Upstate Spartans, both sitting at .500 or better in non-conference play, will face off in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game on Friday at The Coliseum.
The Spartans (3-3) are looking to rebound from a narrow 88-84 home loss to Tennessee Tech on Wednesday. South Carolina Upstate has shown a pattern of high-scoring victories over non-Division I opponents but has struggled against tougher competition, with its lone road win coming in a season-opening 67-66 upset at Fresno State.
West Georgia (3-2) enters with momentum after a 61-59 road win over that same Tennessee Tech team on Monday. The Wolves have protected their home court this season, defeating The Citadel 100-92 and Huntingdon 120-83 in Carrollton.
The matchup features a South Carolina Upstate offense that has proven explosive at home, led by the duo of Shelton Williams-Dryden and Chas Lewless, who each scored 19 points in the recent loss. Williams-Dryden also pulled down 13 rebounds.
West Georgia will look to counter with its own balanced attack as it continues a challenging early-season schedule that has already included road games at Nebraska and UCLA.
Friday’s game is the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Following this contest, West Georgia travels to face Georgia Tech on Sunday, while South Carolina Upstate hosts North Carolina Central on Tuesday.
