Providence vs. Virginia Tech
MONTVILLE, Conn. (Interstat) — Two teams coming off dominant season-opening victories, Providence and Virginia Tech, will meet in a neutral-site non-conference showdown Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Friars (1-0) opened their season with an 89-79 home win over Holy Cross on Monday. Stefan Vaaks led the way with 19 points, while Jamier Jones added 16 points and five rebounds. Providence’s defense was anchored by Oswin Erhunmwunse, who recorded four blocks.
The 24th-ranked Hokies (1-0) were equally impressive, routing Charleston Southern 98-67. Virginia Tech’s frontcourt dominated, with Tobi Lawal posting a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Amani Hansberry adding 19 points and 13 boards.
The game presents an early test for both squads. For Providence, it is the first of several challenging non-conference matchups, including a trip to Colorado next week. For Virginia Tech, it is a chance to build momentum before a later stretch that includes a road game against rival Virginia to close December.
Tipoff is set for Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025.
