Pepperdine at UCLA

LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — Two undefeated Los Angeles-area men’s basketball teams will meet Friday night when Pepperdine visits UCLA at Pauley Pavilion.

Both the Waves (1-0) and the Bruins (1-0) opened their seasons with victories on Monday. Pepperdine held off a challenge from visiting LIFE Pacific for an 88-80 win, while UCLA defeated Eastern Washington 80-74.

The Waves were led by a balanced attack in their opener. Pavle Stosic scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Aaron Clark added 14 points, and Styles Phipps contributed nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Bruins leaned heavily on their backcourt to secure their first win. Donovan Dent poured in 21 points and dished out nine assists, while forward Tyler Bilodeau added 19 points. Xavier Booker chipped in 14 points.

Friday’s contest begins a challenging stretch for the Bruins, who will face West Georgia on Monday before a high-profile neutral-site game against Arizona next Friday in Inglewood.

Pepperdine will return home to host Lincoln University on Tuesday. The Waves’ upcoming schedule features a mix of home games and road tests against regional opponents like Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State.

Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. PST.
