Detroit at Notre Dame
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Interstat) — The Notre Dame Fighting Irish look to build on a season-opening victory when they host the Detroit Mercy Titans in a non-conference men’s basketball game Friday at the Joyce Athletic Center.
Notre Dame (1-0) cruised to an 89-67 win over Long Island on Monday behind a potent scoring effort from its backcourt. Markus Burton led all scorers with 24 points, while Cole Certa added 22 in their debut for the Irish.
Detroit (0-1) is seeking its first win after falling 91-71 at Illinois-Chicago in its opener. Ayden Carter paced the Titans with 18 points, while Orlando Lovejoy and Keshawn Fisher added 11 and 12 points, respectively.
The matchup presents a contrast in early-season momentum. The Titans will aim to tighten their defense after allowing 91 points in their first outing. The Irish, under second-year coach Micah Shrewsberry, showcased a balanced offensive attack with four players scoring in double figures.
This game is the first of a challenging early stretch for Detroit, which faces a road game at Michigan State on Nov. 21. Notre Dame continues its homestand before a significant road test at Ohio State on Nov. 16.
