ERIE, Pa. (Interstat) — The Gannon Golden Knights, propelled by a dominant first-half defensive performance and a game-high 28 points from guard Pace Prosser, defeated the Lander Bearcats 84-61 in a men’s NCAA Division II basketball game Monday afternoon before a crowd of 9,670.

The most important part of the game was Gannon’s stifling opening period, which set the tone for the decisive victory. The Golden Knights held Lander to just 21 first-half points, forcing 10 Bearcat turnovers and blocking five shots. This defensive intensity created a 37-21 halftime lead that Lander never seriously threatened.

Gannon’s offense, while not always crisp early, steadily built its advantage behind Prosser. The junior from Berlin, Pennsylvania, scored 15 of his points before halftime, including a stepback 3-pointer at the buzzer to cap the period. He finished with 28 points, five assists and three steals in 34 minutes.

Lander, which entered the game with a 30-5 record, struggled to find any offensive rhythm against Gannon’s length and activity. The Bearcats shot poorly from the field and committed 18 turnovers, which the Golden Knights converted into 23 points. Dylan Canoville led Lander with 14 points, while Jacob Daniels added 11 points and six assists.

After the break, Gannon quickly extinguished any hope of a Lander rally. The Golden Knights opened the second half on a 6-0 run, pushing their lead to 22 points within the first 90 seconds. Lander never got closer than 17 points the rest of the way as Gannon’s balanced attack maintained control.

Mackenzie Morgan, a 6-foot-4 guard from Sydney, Australia, supported Prosser with 12 points for Gannon. Lucas Sekasi added 13 points and seven assists, providing crucial playmaking. The Golden Knights improved to 34-3 overall with the win, showcasing the defensive prowess that has defined their season.

Lander, which had won 10 of its last 11 games, fell to 30-6. The Bearcats’ 61 points marked their second-lowest offensive output of the season.

The game was characterized by physical defense and frequent stoppages, with the teams combining for 45 personal fouls. Gannon capitalized at the free-throw line, making 22 of its 31 attempts, while Lander managed just 10 of 20.

With the victory, Gannon continues its pursuit of a national championship, having won its games this season by an average margin of over 22 points. Lander will look to regroup after a performance where its normally efficient offense was consistently disrupted.
